“Not only the thirsty seek the water,
the water as well seeks the thirsty.”
_RUMI
When I am water, I move with fluidity - a seamless flow where each movement evolves into the next without resistance. Water is able to adapt to any form it encounters, much like how my body finds new shapes in the rhythm of the music. I can also embody the sensation of dissolving, where my thoughts and worries melt away, leaving only the purity of movement. In this dissolution, there is freedom—a reminder that water, and dance, are expressions of our limitless nature, going beyond boundaries into the unknown depths of our being.
Water needs containment – like the earth cradles the river with its banks, allowing it to flow with purpose and direction. This paradox of structure and freedom is where the magic of dance happens—where I am held and released, supported and liberated. It is within this sacred boundary that I find my full potential to move, just as water finds its power whether it flows gently, rages in the ocean, or finds stillness in a pond.
Water delivers, it nourishes and creates life, yet it can also regress, returning to stillness or pulling back into deeper depths. In dance, this ebb and flow mirrors my internal journey, where moments of active expression meet quiet retreats within me. Just like water, I have no limit—I am capable of reaching depths within my soul that I hadn’t imagined. When I dance as water, I embrace its endless capacity for change, its quiet power, and its eternal depth, knowing that even in the softest movements, there is a vast ocean within me.
