“Am I being an Illuminator?”
Every participant in a Biodanza vivencia plays a vital role. Beyond our own personal experiences, our presence also shapes the experience and even the identity of the other people in the group. A Biodanza Vivencia is not just about the music and dance; it is also brought to life through the presence of everyone in the group. Rolando Toro, creator of Biodanza, reminds us that we become who and what we are in relationship with. In this context the quality of our presence influences how others experience themselves.
Biodanza creates an enriched environment in which positive eco-factors allow life to express more of itself. When we dance with another with openness, acceptance and deep affectivity, we become one of these eco-factors. Sometimes this is subtle and quietly undervalued. We do not seek to change anyone – but rather to recognise the light, beauty that already exists within each other. In this way we become “Illuminators”. Instead of diminishing the other through judgement and expectations, we seek and reflect back the light we see in them.
Dance naturally teaches us this quality of presence. When we are truly present, we respond to the music, to ourselves, and to our partners with sensitivity rather than habit or control. Instead of allowing our attention to drift or moving rigidly we engage with sensitive feedback. In this way we all feel seen, valued, and fully alive. We become the mirror that shines the wonder of life back to each other.
