Dancing beyond the familiar...

“The real voyage of discovery is not in seeking new places,
but in seeing with new eyes.”
_Marcel Proust

Being an Illuminator is about the quality of presence we bring to another person allowing them to shine through. The question on the other side of this equation is how open or willing are we to receive this? Do we keep holding onto the impressions that we have already formed about someone or are we willing to let them surprise us. This is more than a philosophical or intellectual proposition, it is something we can work with and embody through dance.

New experiences of others through dance can naturally interrupt any fixed pictures we may have formed about them. I notice this clearly when introducing dance in corporate or institutional environments where colleagues usually hold limited and often stereotypical ideas about each other. By introducing something like dance which is different we interrupt the predictions and assumptions we have made of the other.

This is where the methodology of Biodanza becomes interesting. It often offers an opportunity for people to access aspects of themselves that for whatever reason lies dormant or hidden. Someone who we normally perceive as say reserved may suddenly dance with extraordinary vitality. Our perception of other can change when we let go the thinking and set ideas and encounter the other through the interaction and playfulness of dance. Vulnerabilities dissolve when we find synchrony in our dances with each other. The power of dance is the proximity, contact and shared experiences that allow our relationships with each other to shift and change. This is truly a beautiful way to let life unfold with freshness beauty.
