DANCE: Acnhored in the present

“Life is a Dance. Mindfulness is witnessing that dance.”
_Amit Ray

Dance is a profound practice that helps to keep us anchored in the present moment, fully immersed in the sensation and movement of our bodies. In the moment that the dance emerges, we become acutely aware of every muscle, every breath, and every beat of our hearts. As we synchronise our movements to music we create a harmonious union of body, heart, and soul.

Emotions find expression through our dance movements and connect us to our inner selves. Each step becomes a language through which we communicate our feelings. By connecting with our bodies we cultivate a profound mindfulness, not only to our physical sensations but to our inner feelings. This magical inner world unfolds into consciousness anchoring us to the present.

Through a strong mind-heart-body connection the intersection of music and dance brings us in alignment with our true essence. Being present in the flow of the dance, we can relinquish intoxicating memories that hold us hostage to our past and embracing the beauty of the present moment we experience life through a soul liberated and free living in the now – here present and fully alive. The ecstasy of living is in the here-now, anchored firmly and directly plugged into the electrifying intensity of life.

DANCE: Unleashing Joy

“How can we know the dancer from the dance?”
_Yeats

Dance is more than just movement; it’s a conversation with our bodies, a way to shift our mood and connect with joy. The free flow of movement opens a unique avenue for self-expression letting us delve within, finding a deeper connection to our true selves without the need for words. Accessing this creative and dynamic inner force offers a nonverbal means of expression that becomes a powerful tool for personal growth.

Our essence is invited into a non-judgemental space coloured with unconditional love so that we can push our boundaries, discovering new facets of ourselves. The expanded freedom we find when being in the flow, dances us towards deeper feelings of appreciation of self that is naturally expressed in joy. The ecstasy of dance is manifest in our moving bodies.

Dance lets us feel what it means to be living in bliss, as we tap into a state of pure unfiltered emotion that transcends the limits of verbal communication. It is an ineffable experience, connecting us to a soulful life where movement speaks the language of the heart. Lost In the dance the essence of our being is guided towards that place where life is naturally filled with joy.

HEALING DANCES

“Life is a dance driven by the rhythms of heartbeats.”
_Anand Singh

From ancient times and down through the ages dance as served as potent form of healing. While many may assume that dance is a means to rectify the narratives of our lives, Biodanza a conscious dance modality introduces a fresh perspective. In this therapeutic modality, the emphasis shifts from mental narratives to bodily experiences. Our stories may reside in our minds, but our true lives unfold through the movement of our bodies.

Healing through dance with Biodanza entails a profound reconnection with our physical selves, tapping into the innate rhythm and vitality that flows through us. Rather than focusing solely on the stories we tell ourselves, this approach encourages us to embrace our instincts and rediscover the natural flow of life within us. By engaging in this embodied expression, we not only heal past wounds but also discover a path to authenticity.

In essence healing dances offer us a pathway to our authentic self-expression by bridging the gap between our mental narratives and our physical experiences. Through dance, we can release the constraints of our stories and access the primal essence of our being. This practice invites us to reconnect with our bodies, not merely as vessels for our thoughts, but as conduits for the vibrant expression of our identities. Healing in dance, then, becomes a journey towards wholeness, where we honour our stories while embracing the freedom of movement and the authenticity it brings.

dance ETERNAL RHYTHMS

“At the still point of the turning world.
Neither flesh nor fleshness.”
- T. S. Elliot

There are two dances that coexist side by side the one feeding the other. The first is the dance of shape, movement through space, and the connection to chronological
time. It is a dance that expresses our relationship to the outside world. It reflects the story we hold about ourselves example. Sometimes if we hold a limiting view of ourselves, it can restrict this dance. In this way the world outside reflects and definitely influences the world inside - the hidden dimensions of being. When I resist the dance, it reinforces that inside of me which resists. When I let go into the dance, it becomes liberating and creates a whole different relationship to self and life.

However there is another dance, that which emerges from the depth of our being. This inner dance is without time and exists in a space of atemporality, without edges and boundaries. This dance emerges via a different route. When we find ways to still the outside world, to still the mind with its stories, and to detach from time and space this dance emerges. Slowness and stillness create greater sensitivity to our senses and our bodies. From the depths of our soul emerges a dance both strange and familiar. This is a dance of remembering and creating - a dance that has the healing power to transcend the ego, our stories, and the stuckness of life.

The invitation of the soul is simply to surrender to the dance – to be held in an ecstatic place beyond words, actions, and our wildest imagination.

dance EXISTENTIAL EXPRESSION

“You are not a drop in the ocean.
You are the ocean in a drop.”
_RUMI

Our dances, like whispers of the soul, evolve over time. In the realm of conscious dance, where transformation and development intersect – there is no single once-off dance, but rather a life-opus that emerges progressively step by step. Each movement we take becomes a chapter in the beautiful dance of becoming.

This eloquent language of dance through layers of rhythm brings us to a moment of truth where our essence finds its expression. This beautiful moment when we give true expression to our authentic selves is when we dance our very identity through existential expression.

In the realm of un-choreographed dance, we surrender to a journey where progressively we surrender to the creative energy that runs through our primal being. We relinquish the mind and rational planning to connect to a primal expression where our dances emerge from chaos, stimulated by instinctual moments they could be without form – without shape.

With music and movement, we surrender to layers of rhythm that transport us into the ecstatic state of pure flow—a place where the dance becomes a vessel for existential truth.

dance - beyond habit

“Chains of habit are too light to be felt
until they are too heavy to be broken.”
_Warren Buffett

We all desire uniqueness, often interpreting it as being distinct from others, yet dance offers the chance to be different from ourselves. It allows us to shed what no longer serves us, embracing change gradually, step by step, with a sense of progression.

In the midst of the dance's excitement, it's easy to skim the surface and miss the essential steps that form a robust dance practice foundation. Our movements, typically habitual, echo our identity and history, making it crucial to introduce new ways of moving slowly. At the same time, rushing into novelty risks triggering our defence mechanisms, challenging our very sense of self.

A skilled facilitator guides a group through a creative, safe journey of increasing complexity in dance. This gradual approach is the beauty of dance. As we dance over time, we may one day wake up and realise, "I feel different." This realisation sparks joy because we've reached this transformation through our own creativity, with solid foundations that can withstand any challenge.

dance ENCHANTMENT

“Be humble, for you are made of earth.
Be noble, for you are made of stars.”
_Serbian Proverb

Dance is the enchanting realm in which we can experience both humility and nobility. The rhythmic movements of our physical body honour our earthly origins and connection. There is a profound humility to be found when we embrace the interconnectedness of all life forms. This humility invites us to shed the ego and embrace the vulnerability of offering our dance to another. When we surrender to the group, our collective dances weave a tapestry of interconnectedness that reflects the beauty of our oneness.

Dance is also the magical elixir that provides us with the power to feel into and experience the full magic and mystery of our human existence. As we dance with feet planted firmly on our Gaian mother, our movements beckon us to embody our celestial essence, transcending all of our perceived limitations so that we can reach for the stars – to dream, to connect to wisdom, and to transcend into the mystery.

When we embody the beautiful balance of humility and nobility we discover the true essence of conscious dance. This powerful existential experience creates a mirror for self-reflection that can become the catalyst for transformation, inspiring us to dance into our journeys of self-discovery. This is the sacred dance of life that unites body, mind and spirit that becomes purposeful, magical, and enchanting.
