ROOTS & WINGS

“We can whirling out of nothingness, scattering stars like dust…
The stars made a circle, and in the middle, we dance.”
_RUMI

Axis Mundi the symbolic centre of the world – the point where heaven and earth meet – is a common motif appearing across mythologies and mystic traditions. It marks the place where the divine touches the human, where the visible and invisible come to dance. Representing a place of power, connection and sacred significance it allows us to dance on a path of infinite possibilities. We can take the abstract and make it real when we realise that in our own universe we are this Axis Mundi - each of us holding a Cosmic centring, a point where we can reflect on the human desire to understand our place in the vastness of the universe.

We meet this centre in the dance in a continuous embodied flow. The moment humanity stood upright, our bodies became living bridges - the rhythmic connection of our feet anchoring us to earth while the free and expansive movements of our arms allow us to reach out to a world beyond ourselves.

Our dances become points of centrality around which our unique experience and expression in this world revolve. In subtle ways our dances reflect the rituals that not only connect us to the natural worlds but also elevate our connection with the sacred. And when we dance from this centre—we don’t just move through the world... we become the world in motion.

DANCING inside-out

"I wish to live a life that causes my soul
to dance inside my body."
_Dele Olanubi

Sometimes we find ourselves caught up in outer forms—how things look, how well we perform, how far we can stretch or move. In dance, this can mean fixating on technique or range of motion. But beneath the surface lies something more essential: a pulsing, inner fire that gives life to movement.

This inner force—what we might call passion—is not something we need to acquire. It already lives within us, waiting to be remembered and reawakened. Dance offers a powerful path back to this inner flame, inviting us to move not from performance but from presence.

When we dance from our passion, we reconnect with the deeper source of our expression, purpose, and vitality. This is not about dancing “well”—it’s about dancing true. In Biodanza we move from the inside out—guided by the quiet, powerful call of life that’s always been there.
